The real reason Tom Cruise skipped going to the Oscars

Last Sunday morning, the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles (USA) hosted the 95th Oscar Awards gala. Numerous Hollywood stars, such as Ana de Armas, Brendan Fraser or Steven Spielberg came to celebrate the seventh art on the most important night in cinema; however, the absence of one of the most anticipated actors of the evening drew the attention of the media.

Tom Cruise, actor and producer of the second installment of the blockbuster Top Gun: Maverick decided not to go down the champagne carpet this year, despite the fact that his film was nominated in the most important category, Best Picture of the year. The reason for his absence? He was spending the night in an igloo near the North Pole.

It didn't take long for social networks and the media to discover that one of the most anticipated stars of the evening would not attend the awards ceremony; what nobody saw coming was the place where Tom Cruise preferred to spend his night. The actor who "saved the cinema" according to the iconic Steven Spielberg, came to raise more than 1,500 million pounds sterling at the box office, according to The Sun.

Despite the success of her latest project, All at Once Everywhere was the big winner of the night, taking home no less than seven golden statuettes. The English outlet has revealed that Cruise had the opportunity to go by private jet from Italy, where he is filming a movie, to Hollywood to attend the gala.

However, the actor, whose project garnered six nominations, decided to fly to Svalbard (500 miles from the North Pole) where he continued shooting scenes for the eighth installment of Mission Impossible, directed by director Chris McQuarrie. As an insider revealed, "Tom just knows how these things go; he'd rather keep doing what he does best, creating amazing movies that millions of people want to see, than sit in an audience clapping and smiling for the cameras."

In fact, Top Gun: Maverick only managed to take home one award, that of Best Sound, of the six to which it aspired, leaving more than one speechless. Lady Gaga was in charge of honoring the action film with a stellar performance of the song 'Hold my hand', for which she was nominated for an Oscar for Best Original Song, which finally won 'Naatu Naatu', from the Indian film RRR.
