The Minister of Justice makes it clear if Ana Obregón's baby will be able to register or not in Spain

The Minister of Justice, Pilar Llop, argued this Thursday that surrogacy implies a "serious violation of human rights", but considers a "valid" solution for Spain to register those born by this procedure in other countries whose situation is regularized.

In an interview on Onda Cero collected by Servimedia, Llop thus assessed the open debate in Spain after learning that Ana Obregón had a baby girl in the US through a 'surrogate womb'.

The head of Justice pointed out that in Spain the Supreme Court has ruled on surrogacy in sentences handed down in 2014 and 2022. She pointed out that, in these resolutions, the judges allude to the fact that the conception of children by this procedure entails a "serious violation of human rights and fundamental rights”.

He argued that this loss of rights affects the surrogate mother and the baby itself, while indicating that "people are not just another consumer product and less so are boys and girls."

Regarding what should be done in Spain with children conceived by this procedure in other countries, he indicated that the instruction approved in 2010, which contemplates recognizing babies as long as their situation has been regularized where the birth took place, seems to him to be a "valid solution". conception and pregnancy.
