The 'invisible house' in the middle of the Mojave desert

At first glance and in the middle of the desert it may seem like a mirage, but it is enough to get a little closer to appreciate that it is real. This is the Invisible House, whose name comes from its glass-covered exterior that reflects the natural beauty of the desert landscape.

Apart from being famous for its innovative appearance, this house has already been discovered on Netflix's The World's Amazing Vacation Rentals' and visited by celebrities such as Demi Lovato, Lizzo, Alicia Keys, U2, as well as Airbnb CEO Bryan Chesky, since It has also been available as a luxury apartment on the Airbnb vacation rental platform, with a price per night between $2,500 and $6,000.

The idea to build this work of art was born 17 years ago, and in 2020 it became a reality thanks to the collaboration between the famous architect Tomas Osinski and the owners and film producers Chris and Roberta Hanley, best known for their work on American Psycho. The house is located in Joshua Tree (California) two hours from the city of Los Angeles.

Inspired by the sci-fi classic 2001: A Space Odyssey, the property is a three-bedroom, four-bathroom, 5,500-square-foot property, cantilevered 100 feet above the ground to leave little environmental footprint, with as little disturbance as possible to the natural foundations and no leveling (natural soil displacement or rocks), with a prefabricated guest house, solar and thermal systems, a 30 square meter projection wall and a 30 meter covered solar pool.

Its rectangular shape and its mirrored exterior offer a palette of natural colors that are constantly changing according to the time of day, the season and the passage of time. Inside, the property is decorated with elements from luxury brands and designers such as Boffi, Miele, FLOS, as well as marble bed frames designed by Chris Hanley and Dan Armstrong's Invisible Guitar played by Aerosmith's Joe Perry.

The aesthetic of the Invisible House is further appealing for its commitment to the environment, its fully Solarcool glass exterior with reflective light filter protects from UV rays, and despite the harsh desert climate it keeps the interiors warm. The roof is composed of an ecological foam and a solar-electric system that make the house a model of sustainability.

To integrate the concept of exterior-interior, the sliding glass walls provide the house with three large bedrooms with uninterrupted views of the vast desert. Each one has its own bathroom decorated with Boffi brand accessories. The master suite features a king-size glass bed, accompanied by an en suite bathroom with a secluded tub, rain shower, and floating vanities.

The building is for sale for 18 million dollars (16.9 million euros). Aaron Kirman and Matt Adamo, AKG Property Listing Agents | Christie's International Real Estate, say that "bringing the Invisible House to the market for the first time is truly a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity."
