Shakira talks about her good relationship with Gabriel García Márquez: "We were very close"

Shakira is in a new era. After permanently leaving Barcelona at the beginning of last April to move to Miami, the woman from Barranquilla has seen her professional career take off again and is fully immersed in the creation of her new studio album. Her social commitments have increased in recent weeks, as well as her interventions in the media. Precisely, one of her last talks was with the Service 95 book club, where she revealed that she had a very good relationship with the writer Gabriel García Márquez.

Possibly, these are two of the most successful and relevant characters in Colombia. It is well known by all that García Márquez's impact on journalism and literature is not questionable. Neither is Shakira's in the music industry. Now, the woman from Barranquilla has revealed what her relationship with the writer, whom she greatly admired, was really like. "We met when I was only 21 years old, because he wanted to interview me and write an article about me, something that I never understood," he began by explaining.

"From then on, we were very close, I remember that when we met, in our first meeting, he told me to tell him an interesting story. And I said, 'But, about what?' To which he responded: 'Tell me anything, if you don't tell me, I'll make it up'. That's what he did, tell stories, and that's how he conquered our hearts," expressed the interpreter of Before Six.

The writer, who died on April 17, 2014, has been a great inspiration for 'Shak', as well as one of the people who marked his life. That is why the Colombian wanted to chat with this book club, who this month addresses the renowned novel One Hundred Years of Solitude, written by Gabriel. In the interview, Gerard Piqué's ex-partner assures that, over time, she discovered that she had many things in common with the author, especially regarding work.

"I had the honor of participating in the music for the film Love in the Time of Cholera, one of my best work experiences, and it was the most inspiring. It has been my favorite part of my repertoire ever since," he said. "For its part, One Hundred Years of Solitude is a book that has not only impacted me at very deep levels, but has left a profound mark on an entire country and has completely changed the vision of Colombia in the world, and even of Latin America," he continued.

The artist's affection for the author is evident, and she ensures that his impact worldwide is a source of pride for Colombians. "His books were the most emblematic. He showed Colombia to the world, with all the most special details of my country and my culture. I believe that Gabriel García Márquez left a legacy that is incomparable with any other in world literature," she stated. From the way she speaks, it is obvious that Sasha and Milan's mother misses the writer, who has been one of her great references.
