Meryl Streep is already in Oviedo to receive the Princess of Asturias Award for the Arts

Meryl Streep is, possibly, one of the most established actresses in recent Hollywood history. Born in New Jersey in 1949, she would debut nearly three decades later with Julia, starring Jane Fonda; and she would occupy roles in titles as varied as The Devil Wears Prada, Kramer vs. Kramer or The Iron Lady. In Spain she will always be linked to the immeasurable voice of Rosa Griñón and, now also, to the Princess of Asturias award.

The American performer was spotted this Tuesday morning in Oviedo, waiting to receive the Arts award this coming Friday, in a ceremony to be held at the Campoamor Theater. The award ceremony will be presided over by the kings of Spain, and the official reception of the winners will be held beforehand tomorrow, Wednesday. Despite this, Streep has already been seen in the Asturian capital, arriving around 9:00 at the Hotel de la Reconquista.

The protagonist of The Bridges of Madison has arrived accompanied by one of her brothers, and received by a relatively small audience. Even so, Streep greeted the few people who had shown up to receive her, before receiving a welcome from Teresa Sanjurjo, director of the Princess Foundation. The actress had requested a few hours off before starting her schedule, which starts on Wednesday morning.

Your list of activities will start with an official welcome from the Princess Foundation team. Another notable event will be a meeting with representatives of a very special student body. They are ESO and Baccalaureate students who have taken a cultural program inspired by their career. Another notable meeting will take place on the same Wednesday afternoon, starting at 7:30 p.m., where the largest attendance at the commemorative events is expected.

It will be a public event at the Oviedo Exhibition and Congress Palace, where more than 2,000 attendees are expected. This is a talk called Unscripted, in which viewers will be able to ask the actress with the most nominations in the history of the Oscars about her career. She will do it in the company of another recognized figure in the Spanish acting world: the actor from Malaga Antonio Banderas, with whom she coincided in The Laundromat: Dirty Money.

Another event that the Princess Foundation highlights on its website is a meeting with students from the Higher School of Dramatic Art. This student body will be in charge of performing Spanish theater scenes in tribute to the New Jersey native. The event will take place on Thursday at 12:00 noon, at the ESAD headquarters, located in Gijón. Along with this activity, other events revolve around the awards in Asturian territory.
