It was a few weeks ago when the news came to light that Antonio Tejado had been accused of being the "intellectual author" of the robbery at the home of his aunt, the artist María del Monte, last August 2023. The news was surprising to many, since no one expected that the robbery had anything to do with any of their relatives. Subsequently, the entry into provisional prison was announced, dictated by the Court of Instruction number 16 of Seville. Now it has become known, thanks to Diario de Sevilla, that the singer's legal team has opposed the request for provisional release of her nephew.
It was a couple of weeks ago when Tejado's defense requested his provisional release, something that the Prosecutor's Office opposed. In the last few hours, it has become known that María del Monte's lawyer has presented a brief to the judge in which he has made his client's position completely clear: they are against the provisional release of Tejado. This is what El Diario de Sevilla recently made known.
The assault at the artist's home occurred in the early hours of August 24. It was then that six hooded men forcibly entered the home, gagging both the house's workers and María del Monte's partner, the journalist Inmaculada Casal. The only one who was not attacked was the tonadillera herself, a gesture that, seen in perspective, gives a lot to think about as far as Tejado is concerned.
According to the aforementioned media, the interpreter has asked her lawyer, Francisco Baena Bocanegra, to send a letter to the judge asking him to maintain provisional detention for her nephew and deny him conditional release. With this, it can be seen that the family ties between the two are completely broken, and that they are unlikely to be fixed.
The artist defends, through her lawyer, that there are sufficient indications that her nephew was one of the assailants. The artist considers that they are not "mere hypotheses or conjectures", but are the fruits of the "brilliant, meticulous and precise criminal investigation carried out by the Judicial Police" that places Antonio Tejado as the alleged "intellectual author."
The artist's defense recalls that "few news my clients will celebrate with more satisfaction, especially his aunt, than knowing that he himself is unrelated to this criminal plot." The lawyer points out that if the situation is painful for Antonio Tejado, one can imagine "the suffering that all this has been causing" to the artist.
According to the letter, María del Monte has at all times publicly recognized "the right to the presumption of innocence that protects all suspects." However, the lawyer points out that all the evidence leads to the assailants possessing "privileged information", something that only someone close to the couple could know.
María's opposition is not the only one. Also added is the refusal of the Seville Prosecutor's Office, who also sent a report opposing the release of both Tejado and the rest of those involved. In the report, it was also requested that, in the event of release, a bail of 100,000 euros be requested. We will have to wait for the judge's decision this Friday to find out more about the case.
