Lips also need you to protect them from the sun and that's how you should do it

Lips are a very important part of the face. In charge of framing our smile, forming expressive faces and giving kisses. For all these noble tasks, we usually pay a lot of attention to them when we put on our makeup, profiling them to get the most out of them and painting them in the color that best suits us.

However, we do not remember so much to protect them from the sun. If you are aware of the damage that ultraviolet radiation exerts on the skin, surely you can prevent it by applying sun protection on your body when you go to the beach or the pool and on your face throughout the year. This is phenomenal! But what about the lips?

The skin of the lips is much more sensitive than that of the rest of the face, making it more vulnerable to suffering damage from the sun. If your lips are burned, not only will it be annoying because of the pain, itching and because they will dry out and peel, but it also increases the risk of contracting cancer in the area, unsightly wrinkles and loss of firmness will appear. In addition, the heat dries them out and irritates them. For all this, take good note of how to protect them so that they look perfect.

The fundamental pillar to protect your lips from the sun is to apply a lip balm with a photoprotection factor. Although the majority that incorporate it have an SPF 15, it would be best to at least look for a factor of 30, with 50 being ideal.

As with the sun cream for the face, you should apply the sun protection product to the lips 30 minutes before exposing yourself to the rays. It is also important to use it in winter and on cloudy days, as the sun damages the dermis even if it is hidden in the clouds. Likewise, you should reapply it every two hours and always after bathing, drinking or eating.

In addition to using a lip balm with photoprotection, it is very beneficial to protect them at night to keep them nourished, prevent them from drying out and make them look healthy and beautiful. To do this, apply a moisturizing Vaseline every night, which contains ingredients such as cocoa butter, shea butter or vitamin E. Once or twice a week, you can use a specific lip mask.

On the other hand, once a week it is advisable to exfoliate the lips to remove loose skin. Mix sugar with olive oil and perform a very gentle massage. Then wash it off with water and apply a generous layer of moisturizing balm.

As an extra tip, avoid licking your lips as much as possible. You may think it's a relief when you feel dry and tight, but the truth is that saliva evaporates quickly, favoring dehydration.
