Carrie Fisher's Princess Leia dress, the Batpod motorcycle used by Christian Bale in The Dark Knight, or Star-Lord's helmet from the first installment of Guardians of the Galaxy are historical accessories that are part of popular movie culture. Considered authentic relics by fans of the saga, these pieces and a few more will come up for auction next June at Propstore.
The Star Wars dress, a holy grail for collectors, and the Batpod alone are estimated to fetch more than $2 million each. An estimate that has been suggested by the same auction house specializing in film and collectible treasures.
More than 1,400 items will be sold over three days, June 28-30 in Los Angeles. The first day will feature in-room auctions, open to the public, at the Petersen Automotive Museum. Online and telephone bids can be made throughout the event.
The ceremonial dress of Princess Leia - whose authenticity was previously studied and only a single costume from the original film exists - designed by John Mollo, who won an Oscar for his work on Star Wars, will be the jewel in the crown of the auction. This is the design that Fisher wore during the final scene of the film, where Leia awards Luke Skywalker and Han Solo her medals.
This outfit was used by photographer David Steen to photograph Fisher on numerous occasions for Star Wars carts, as well as in numerous publicity photos, which is why this dress became so important.
The Batpod, another of the star items of this auction, is one of the six models made for the production of Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises. It was used by the famous actor Christian Bale and his stunt double Jean-Pierre Goy during filming, as well as at numerous promotional events for the films.
This one has spent the last few years in storage at the Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles and four years ago, in 2019, it was featured prominently in the Hollywood Dream Machines exhibit. However, it is not being sold in a working condition as the battery, fuel tank and throttle controls are removed. But it comes with a metal stand for display.
Guardians of the Galaxy is another of the most famous Marvel sagas in history and that is why Star-Lord's Light-Up helmet from the first installment of the saga, released in 2014, is expected to be another of the greats' hits' from the auction and is estimated to fetch a range between $100,000 and $200,000.
The helmet is described as a two-piece cast urethane resin mask padded with foam and suede, which was hand-painted with a variety of different finishes to resemble metal. Concealed inside the helmet is a 9V battery powered switch that illuminates the LEDs inside the lenses and a red LED light on the right side when turned on. It is intentionally slightly faded to make it look very used with scratches throughout.
