The actress and content creator, who has more than 70,000 followers on Instagram, showed in her last photograph how she had shaved her head. A surprising transformation of her image, which she wanted to explain in an attached writing. Suárez admitted to having felt insecure about it, but she wanted to give herself a change of scenery and break with the patterns of femininity that, in her mind, were found in details such as hair or nails.
“When I was little I saw a shaved girl with very big earrings and at the same moment I fell in love with that image. Following this I thought… should I shave? And that's where the insecurity came. Keyla, how are you going to shave your head if you're going to look like a boy?! Of course... being a trans woman in a society that forced me to be as feminine as possible, I saw it as something unattainable. “I always thought my femininity was in my long hair, my nails and my makeup, until I got fed up.”
Because I don't want to be feminine by forcing myself to follow patterns that I do NOT feel like following. Because I want to be free and be the woman I want to be. And so it is, I cut my hair and showed myself that I still love myself, that I look beautiful and that if I knew I would have done it sooner! Although better late than never. Now I want my hair to grow healthy and beautiful. Who said fear? Who said that bald women are not sexy? I look beautiful.”
Despite the new haircut, some users often wondered about a resource they constantly saw on their Instagram stories: a wig. The Canarian had to explain that it was due to work reasons, implying that she would be in the middle of filming. Likewise, she shared on multiple occasions some messages that came to her, in which she felt very grateful to be compared to the singer Nathy Peluso.
This 2023 has brought important changes in the life of Keyla Suárez, but unfortunately it also left her with a very unpleasant incident: a transphobic attack suffered during Gáldar Pride. The city council of the Canarian population “deeply regretted that these types of attacks still occur, totally and absolutely unjustifiable,” insisting on the need to hold events that “contribute to normalizing and making visible the equality and integration of all people.”
