Kelsey Grammer clarifies whether 'Frasier' will go to the 'Cheers' bar in its new stage

Kelsey Grammer, before having her own sitcom with Frasier, played the same character on Cheers. He was one of the regulars at Ted Danson's bar in Boston, which he left to reconnect with his father, who was retired and had health problems due to a gunshot wound. And, as Frasier Crane returned to Boston with the spin-off sequel, there was one question. Could the media psychiatrist visit the Cheers bar?

For now, Kelsey Grammer dismisses the idea. “I don't think we should do it. We do not want to desecrate a national monument. “I'm not sure we could live up to anything that wasn't a desecration,” she revealed to Variety, making it clear that this is a sign of respect and not contempt. “I think we honored her by excluding her,” she justified.

Between the old Frasier and the new, Dr. Crane raised his fame even further by becoming a television presenter who treated his patients in front of the cameras. But, after wanting to abandon this frivolous approach to psychiatry, he decided to move to Boston to resolve differences with his son Freddy (Jack Cutmore-Scott), who decided to be a firefighter and thus created a distance between father and son. .

And, after accepting a job at Harvard, the absence of the Cheers bar began to draw attention, especially because the character frequents another bar, where Eve (Jess Salgueiro), Freddy's roommate, works. The viewer had no choice but to question, if they are set in the same fictional universe, why one of the most important bars in the history of television did not make an appearance.

Between the old Frasier and Cheers, after all, there were certain dynamics: in total they produced multiple crossovers, that is, Frasier received guests from its previous sitcom. Ted Danson, Shelley Long, Woody Harrelson, John Ratzenberger, George Wendt, Rhea Pearlman or, of course, Bebe Neuwirth were in the series set in Seattle.

In fact, Neuwirth, who played Lilith, Frasier's ex-wife and Freddy's mother, is scheduled to appear in this new comedy produced by Kelsey Grammer. Another veteran of this universe who will return will be Peri Gilpin, who played Roz Doyle, the producer of Frasier's radio show.

For Grammer, the character of Frasier Crane is fundamental to his acting career. It allowed him to be nominated 12 times for an Emmy: two as a supporting role for Cheers and ten as a lead for Frasier, and he won four times for the spin-off. Whether he will repeat in these awards in 2024 remains to be seen.

The first season of the Frasier sequel is currently airing on SkyShowtime.
