Daniel Scheinert stood out last Sunday night in the movie mecca after winning an Oscar for co-directing 'Everything at once everywhere'. The filmmaker picked up the award along with co-director Dan Kwan and did so with a style that is almost as bizarre in origin as his film.
Asked on the red carpet who was signing his look, a black tuxedo combined with a burgundy T-shirt, curiously matching his partner's jacket, Scheinert explained to everyone's amazement that not only did he not know who his designer was, but he also did. I had rescued from a lost and found store.
The store in question is called Unclaime Baggage and is in Scottsboro, Alabama. The curious establishment lives by buying unclaimed suitcases from the airlines and then reselling them. A bit like the auctions of storage areas or containers that are so popular in the United States.
From jewelry to outlandish objects or luxury dresses. The suitcases in this lost and found store contain all kinds of orphaned gadgets and objects. No one would have imagined that a suit found in a lost suitcase would one day walk the red carpet at the Oscars, much less go up on the big stage of the contest to accompany one of the big winners of the night.
"We feel very honored that we have been able to be part of his great moment (Daniel's)," explains Jennifer Kritner, vice president of sales for Unclaime Bags, during an interview with the Washington Post, adding: "we are very proud of Daniel and his Alabama roots and so excited to see one of our own succeed in such an incredible way."
Scheinert has wanted to maintain its essence when it comes to dressing despite the prestigious circuits in which it moves now after its success. To attend the Independent Spirit Film Awards, the filmmaker opted for a military poncho that according to Kritner in the same interview belonged to his grandfather and for the 2019 Sundance Film Festival he wore a Crimson Tide Alabama team shirt.
