Courtney Love reveals the original and unpublished lyrics of the hit that catapulted Nirvana

29 years have passed since the death of Kurt Cobain, the leader of Nirvana, although the band is far from being forgotten. Now Courtney Love, the artist's widow, has caused a stir among the band's fans by revealing unpublished lyrics from the iconic world hit 'Smells Like Teen Spirit'.

Love visited the 60 Songs That Explain The '90s podcast, led by expert Rob Harvilla. During her visit, the artist delighted Nirvana fans by sharing anecdotes about the late Kurt Cobain; however, it was the secret lyrics of the 1990s anthem that caught the public's attention.

The one who was the leader of the alternative rock band Hole offered a unique moment in the podcast after taking out some diaries with letters that never saw the light of day. To the surprise of listeners, Love decided to share the unpublished lyrics of 'Smells Like Teen Spirit' which goes like this:

“Come out and play / make up the rules / I know I hope / to buy the truth / who will be the king and queen / of all the outcasted teens” truth / who will be the king and queen / of all the marginalized adolescents"), says the first verse of the song.

Regarding the chorus, the unpublished version changes it completely: "We're so lazy / and so stupid / blame our parents / and the cupids / a deposit, for a bottle / stick it inside / no role model" lazy / and so stupid / we blame our parents / and cupids / a deposit, for a bottle / put it in / no role model").

Courtney Love highlights the strength of the phrase "who will be the king and queen / of all marginalized teenagers", which did not make it to the final version of the song, and which according to the artist could have protected her from "bearing so much shit" for part of the fans after the suicide of Cobain. Regardless of its lyrics, 'Smells Like Teen Spirit' is a hymn that has marked an entire generation for breaking the mold, and will always be remembered as such.
