Daniel Sancho has been in Koh Samui prison for a month and a half since he confessed to having murdered and dismembered the Colombian surgeon Edwin Arrieta in Thailand. Even so, it is not his definitive location, so he will be transferred when the trial takes place and the sentence for the accused is decided.
This case has gone around the world and many have wanted to comment on it. One of them has been Artur Segarra, the man who in 2016 dismembered another Spaniard in the Asian country and for which he was sentenced to the death penalty. Thanks to the intervention of the king of Thailand, his sentence was reduced to life imprisonment. Now, he wanted to send some advice to Sancho.
Artur Segarra wanted to write a letter, to which the TardeAR program has had access, where he recounts his life in a Thai prison after the crime he committed. "You cannot trust Thai justice. (...) "I have suffered it on my own; This is the third world. The sentences are either ridiculous or disproportionate," he wanted to make clear.
At the same time, he assured that "everything depends on the cash you have available to pay the prosecutor's office, judges and police." An image of the Thai justice that they wanted to send to Daniel Sancho so that he can prepare his defense.
But it was not the only thing that Segarra has expressed to Rodolfo Sancho's son. "You have two options: fight the case, which will require an embassy official to be present during the trial days, to face the capital punishment, to review statements and evidence," the prisoner has begun to advise.
"The second option is to accept a prior negotiation with the prosecution, a sentence of less than 30 years so that he can achieve the 'excellent' classification," he continued.
For his part, Daniel Sancho is receiving the support of his mother, Silvia Bronchalo, and his father, Rodolfo Sancho, who have already gone to visit him in prison. However, it seems that, although they are going to try to get the best for his son, they know very well the seriousness of the matter.
It was the actor himself who contacted Edwin Arrieta's family: "First of all I want to give my deepest condolences to you and your entire family, my soul is with you." Likewise, he wanted to put his opinion on the table about what could have happened to his son. "It's obvious he had some kind of psychotic break or he had some mental illness that had never surfaced," he said.
