Traveling with Chester was attended this Wednesday by two of the best-known faces in the world of music and journalism. On the one hand, Malú opened her heart and opened up about her relationship with Albert Rivera and what motivated her breakup, something that served as inspiration for her latest song Ausente de ella; and, on the other, Pedro Piqueras, the flagship of Informativos Telecinco who already has a replacement, Carlos Franganillo.
For the first time, the presenter clears up the doubts that hover over whether his departure from Telecinco is due to a dismissal or his imminent retirement. And, furthermore, he also did not hesitate to reveal how the signing of his replacement was carried out to leave the public channel for a private one.
“Are you leaving or are they kicking you out?” Risto Mejide asked Pedro Piqueras directly as soon as the interview began on Traveling with Chester. “I'm leaving,” the veteran journalist wanted to make clear. “And as the day approaches, regretting not having a younger age to continue,” he said.
In fact, Piqueras acknowledged for the first time when he began to think about retiring: “I have been thinking about leaving for two years. You have to know how to leave too, and you have to leave at a time when you can do different things.”
The reason for his departure and for wanting to retire is his need to do things he has never done, such as having a few drinks with friends or going to the theater. “When you work for so long, leaving at ten at night, forget about it.”
It took him time to take the step forward and to communicate his departure because “it was difficult to choose the moment”, something always happened. Here he referred to the pandemic, the war in Ukraine, the early elections... But Piqueras finally committed to the network until there was an investiture, so now "I don't feel committed to leaving with things unfinished."
Regarding the signing of Carlos Franganillo, Piqueras stated that he was “very happy” with the transition. “I think he is a good choice. Franganillo and I understand journalism in a very similar way. “I always saw in him the type that I would like to happen to me,” he explained.
In fact, the veteran journalist revealed that he also collaborated in the negotiation for the hiring of Franganillo as the new face of Informativos Telecinco. That is, he contributed to his signing for the private network. “He was very comfortable at TVE, I collaborated for him to come and I am satisfied with that,” he said.
And, although he admitted that he was “a little angry” about leaving at a time when he is betting on news programs on his network, he also knew how to see that at 68 years old “an information project takes time to consolidate.”
For this reason, “I think this is the moment in which I have helped row, accompanying the person who is going to replace me, betting on someone who is good, and moving away because I am not going to have the necessary strength, this is a work that you start in the morning and finish at night.”
