Actress Emmanuelle Debever dies after jumping into the Seine: in 2019 she accused Gerard Depardieu of sexual assault

French actress Emmanuelle Debever died on December 7 after jumping from a bridge into the Seine River in Paris. A rescue team administered emergency first aid before transporting her to hospital, where she eventually died at the age of 60.

The actress's partner was the one who alerted the Police, warning that the interpreter had left her house leaving a handwritten note of a "worrying" nature.

For the moment, the prosecutor's office has confirmed having opened an investigation to clarify the causes of Debever's death.

The French actress was one of the complainants who accused the actor Gérard Depardieu of inappropriate sexual conduct, as reported by the Paris Prosecutor's Office. In 2019, the actress shared a post on Facebook in which she revealed that Depardieu had "groped" her while they were both acting in the film Danton, in 1982.

The actor, who is currently 74 years old, has been under investigation since 2020 for two alleged crimes of rape and sexual assault that he allegedly committed against actress Charlotte Arnauld at her home in Paris in 2018. For the moment, the actor has been accused of sexual violence by 13 women, during the filming of eleven films released between 2004 and 2022, according to an investigation by the French newspaper Mediapart.

All of them went to court, but none of them filed a complaint considering that their future could be affected, given Depardieu's weight in the French social sphere and in the international film industry - being as they were actresses, makeup artists and working staff of the world of cinema. However, all of them reported that the actor used to make inappropriate touches, as well as make obscene comments.

The protagonist of Cyrano de Bergerac (1990) has always denied any criminal involvement and conduct. "I want to tell you the truth. I have never, never abused a woman," he published in an open letter shared with the French newspaper Le Figaro, where he denied being "a predator" and described himself as "a gentleman who loves courtship." always "opposed to all forms of violence, whether verbal, physical or psychological", as well as "extremely modest" in sexual matters.
