080 Barcelona Fashion is committed to diversity

Barcelona is preparing for another date with fashion, while it is still enjoying the success of visitors and business achieved at the Bridal, which closed its doors last Sunday. Next week, from May 2 to 5, the 31st edition of 080 Barcelona Fashion will be held in the modernist Sant Pau venue, which seems to have become the venue for the fashion shows.

This Wednesday the contents and novelties of the next 080 Barcelona Fashion were presented, considered a fashion platform that for some time has sought to unite all the sectors involved, from the textile industry to retail stores, and which directly involves some 80,000 people, as announced by the general director of Commerce of the Generalitat, Jordi Torrades.

This year, 080 Barcelona Fashion is committed more than ever to diversity both in brands and in the casting of models that will be seen on the catwalk and which is based on inclusion, diversity of bodies and sizes, and multiculturalism. "We continue with our commitment to sustainability that we started in the previous edition, but now we are going to take a step forward in the field of diversity," said Agnès Russiñol, director of the Consorci de Comerç, Artesania i Moda de Catalunya. And she adds: “We have selected brands (established and emerging) with more sustainable, timeless, inclusive and gender-neutral or genderless collections. In addition, local crafts will be very present in the accessories”.

If precisely in the previous edition, committed to sustainability, the parade that caused the most expectation was second-hand clothing, this time it will be inclusive fashion, on Friday morning through the Free Form Style brand, specialized in in fashion for people with reduced mobility.

“There is a need for people who use wheelchairs, wear prostheses or have reduced mobility to be able to dress fashionably. Fashion shows have been held in England and the Netherlands and at 080 we want to be pioneers with an adapted catwalk”, affirmed Marina Vergés, one of the founders of the brand and who participated in the press conference.

"Models in wheelchairs, Paralympic athletes, those who are missing a limb, people with reduced mobility due to a stroke and also some who suffer from dwarfism will parade," Vergés completed. In this sense, Agnés Russiñol has advanced that he is working to make the entire modernist site of Sant Pau more accessible.

In addition to Free Form Style, the list of 25 participating brands and designers is made up of: Simorra, Escorpion, Lebor Gabala, Txell Miras, Menchen Tomas, Custo Barcelona, Lola Casademunt, Dominnico, Yolancris, The Artelier, Victor von Schwarz, The Label Edition, Raveligion, Habey Club and Eñaut. Also newcomers Laretta, Nathalie Chandler, 404 Studio, Compte Spain, Paolo Leduc and Outsiders Division. And the return of Oscar Leon (Bielo), Anel Yaos and Rita Row.

The presentation of the 31st edition at the Nobu hotel ended with a few words of encouragement for Marta Coca, director of 080 Barcelona Fashion, who will not be able to be present at this edition.
