Who said cold? 40,000 bikers will attend the Pingüinos 2024 in Valladolid this weekend

The Pigüinos 2024 biker rally is here, which this year will have the participation of more than 40,000 people. Without a doubt, it is a great party for fans of two-wheeled mounts. In fact, along with the so-called Elefantentreffen – which takes place in Germany – it is the most important winter event of this type internationally. Since 1982, it has been celebrated in Valladolid for four days, coinciding with the second weekend of January, in Valladolid. And in 2011 it was declared a Festival of Regional Tourist Interest and now the City Council has begun the procedures to raise the rank of the distinction to a national level.

It doesn't matter if it's very cold, if it's foggy, snowing or freezing. After all, that's what it's like this time of year. None of this intimidates the attendees, who want to fully enjoy the good atmosphere that is breathed in the Pingüinos concentration, whose field is located in the Antigua Hípica Militar de Valladolid.

Thousands of bikers from all over Spain and abroad come to this event, ready to have a great time sharing experiences and battles, as well as enjoying the activities that have been organized for all the days. To guarantee the safety and fluidity of circulation in the area, the General Directorate of Traffic (DGT) has prepared a special device.

The special measures are activated today, Thursday, January 11, and will continue on Friday and throughout the weekend, ending on Sunday afternoon and covering the return of the more than 40,000 expected attendees who are expected to attend said rally.

More than 140 Traffic agents will participate in the operation, in which specific surveillance will be carried out to control risky behavior, dangerous driving, speed controls, alcohol/drugs and mandatory documentation.

In addition to the road controls, surveillance from the air will be carried out with the Pegasus helicopter that will fly over the different roads that lead to the venue where the concentration is being held, as well as several drones that will transmit images to the Valladolid Traffic Management Center.

Drivers who have to travel through the area must take into account that due to the activities scheduled during the concentration, from Friday, January 12 at 3:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. on Sunday the 14th, it will be closed at The CL-610 highway will circulate between kilometer points 4 and 9,800, a section in which only motorcycles, public transportation and authorized vehicles will be allowed to circulate. For this reason, the two alternative itineraries that we detail below have been established.

Taking advantage of the large gathering of bikers and taking into account that this is the vulnerable group on the road that registers the most deaths in traffic accidents, the DGT will have a tent on the premises where it will develop various information and awareness activities about the consequences of some risk behaviors. They will also address the dangers of driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs or while drowsy and tired. Questions about the balance of the points permit, the ITV and any other question that motorists may have will also be resolved.
