The end of phone calls as we know them

Relevant updates have been taking place in the mobile industry for a long time -such as new customization options, camera modes and functionalities-, but not in the fact of making or receiving calls. In this sense, the business school professor, Pablo Foncillas, warns that "the end of calls as we know them is coming."

New calling is the concept that will revolutionize this function in mobile phones, a fusion between voice, video, web and images. All these elements "working in harmony", explains the innovation promoter. Unlike WhatsApp and Facetime video calls, 5G will enable high-value interactive applications such as ultra-high-definition capabilities, simultaneous translation, intelligent customer service, and interactive remote collaboration.

In China, for example, they are already enabling real-time translation, which will give people with hearing or visual difficulties "the opportunity to communicate with anyone," says Foncillas.
