The company specialized in electric vehicles Ebro - EV Motors has reached an agreement with the Chinese manufacturer Chery for the production of cars in the former Nissan plant in the Barcelona Free Trade Zone. The joint venture established for this purpose is majority owned by Ebro, a brand historically linked to these facilities and which has returned to activity after its disappearance in 1987.

The firm has been reborn as a manufacturer of electric vehicles and presented its first product at the latest edition of Automobile Barcelona. It is a zero-emission pick-up that will begin production at the Barcelona plant during the fourth quarter of this year. Later on, it is planned to also manufacture a light industrial vehicle, van type, of which no details have been revealed.

While waiting to have more data on the official presentation of the production vehicle (a prototype very close to the street version was shown at Automobile Barcelona), we can report that the new pick-up is equipped with two electric motors, one on each axle, which They will develop a power of 220 kW (equivalent to 299 HP). The lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 100 kWh will offer a range of up to 440 kilometers.

Its dimensions (5,218 mm high, 1,848 mm wide and 1,785 mm high) allow it to offer ample interior space to accommodate five people, as well as a practical loading platform that meets the needs of work both in the field as in the city as it is a vehicle initially intended for the professional and industrial sector.

According to statements made by Edu Blanco, one of those responsible for Ebro, to the Motorpasión portal, the first 1,500 units manufactured will be destined for company fleets. The launch of a more recreational version is planned for 2026, which will also be available for private customers. The objective is to achieve a production of between 15,000 and 20,000 units per year by 2030. Blanco then assured the aforementioned media that the price of the vehicle will be around 57,000 euros.

Before Ebro begins manufacturing its pick-up in the Barcelona Free Trade Zone, Chery will assemble the Omoda 5 in these facilities. This Chinese car is a 4.4 meter long SUV with front-wheel drive and attractive aesthetics. The interior features the latest in comfort, connectivity and multimedia technology, with 2 dual high-resolution screens of 26 cm (10.25 inches) each, multicolor ambient lighting, wireless charging, heated and ventilated sports seats with electric adjustments and a high quality sound system.

According to the brand's Spanish commercial website, the mechanical range consists of a gasoline version and an electric one. The first is powered by a 1.6 Turbo four-cylinder block that develops a power of 185 HP and a maximum torque of 290 Nm. Associated with a 7-speed automatic gearbox, this car accelerates to 100 km/h from a standstill in 7.8 seconds.

The electric one, called E5, has a 150 kW (about 204 HP) and 230 Nm motor. With a top speed of 172 km/h and an acceleration of 7.6 seconds from 0 to 100 km/h, it offers a maximum range of 430 kilometers.
