The Catalan Parliament urges the DGT to regulate cargo and delivery bikes

The Parliament of Catalonia has urged the General Directorate of Traffic (DGT) to modify the Traffic and Road Safety Code to regulate the use of cargo bicycles and cyclologistics trailers (transport and delivery of products, goods and merchandise by bicycle).

This is clear from an ERC motion on the Catalan bicycle strategy, which has been approved in plenary session of Parliament with the support of practically all groups, although several of them, such as PSC or JxCat, have criticized the Republicans , agreeing that it was a text "full of obviousness".

The Republican motion is committed to creating and deploying the Catalan Bicycle Office as a tool to promote the policies of the Generalitat in relation to this type of vehicle, also advocating to grow the interurban and segregated cycling network for daily mobility.

It is also requested that the Catalan Traffic Service implement intelligent signage on the roads most used by cyclists, to help indicate in advance the presence of cyclists on the roads.

The text advocates studying the creation of direct help lines for the acquisition of electric bikes for municipalities outside the metropolitan area, with the aim of promoting urban and interurban mobility, a point on which the Socialists have abstained.

Other points approved also have an impact on supporting projects such as the School Bike Bus or on supporting the growth of the cycling tourism infrastructure in Catalonia.
