Given the forecast of significant snowfall this Friday in areas of the center of the peninsula, the General Directorate of Traffic (DGT) has issued an unusual recommendation: leave the left lane free and circulate in convoy (one vehicle behind another) to allow the passage of road maintenance vehicles and snow plows.

In addition, it advises users to pay attention to the signage on the variable message panels and the instructions of the agents of the Traffic Group of the Civil Guard and to know the colors with which stretches of road are classified due to snow.

According to the management, it is important to exercise extreme caution when traveling through areas and roads affected by snowfall, and to have the appropriate means and equipment to travel safely, including chains or winter tires are other tips.

Finally, the DGT advises citizens who have to travel by road to check the weather forecast and the state of the roads, as well as to have chains available in case their use is necessary for driving or to have winter tires installed.

According to the forecast of the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet), the storm Juan has forced the activation of the orange warning (significant risk) for this Friday in the Iberian region of Zaragoza and the plateau of Segovia and Soria due to snow accumulations of 5 to 20 centimeters , depending on the areas.

In addition, there is a yellow warning (risk) in places in Ávila, Barcelona, Burgos, Girona, Guadalajara, La Rioja, Lleida, Madrid, Segovia, Soria and Teruel.

The snow level will drop to between 400 and 700 meters in most of the northern half of the peninsula and will remain between 800 and 1,200 meters in the Pyrenees, and 1,600 to 1,800 in the mountains of the southeast of the peninsula.

According to the DGT, this winter episode could mainly affect roads in the Community of Madrid, Castilla-La Mancha, Castilla y León, Aragón and the Valencian Community.
