Renfe will redesign the car parks of all the Cercanías stations in the country to offer more sustainable alternatives to the use of private vehicles, favoring intermodal connections with other means of transport.

The public railway operator will thus transform its stations into 'Green Mobility Hubs', that is, into 'green' mobility centers dedicated to micro-mobility (motorbike, bicycle, scooter) and shared mobility, the management of battery exchange or the implementation of charging points for electric vehicles, as well as the establishment of accessible areas for mobility services.

This initiative will be gradually implemented in the Renfe suburban train hubs (Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia, Seville, Bilbao, San Sebastián, Murcia-Alicante, Cádiz, Zaragoza, Málaga, Cantabria and Asturias), which transport more than 450 million passengers per year. In a first step, it will carry out a pilot project at three stations to collect data, perform analysis and validate the results of the pilot.

To this end, Renfe will partner with shared and sustainable mobility companies, as well as energy companies, aligning itself with the Sustainable Mobility Strategy of the Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda, with the European Commission and with the roadmap of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) of the UN 2030 Agenda, which calls for urgent measures to combat climate change and its effects.

The objective is to improve accessibility, traffic management and quality of collective public transport, create new business opportunities, reduce polluting emissions, promote sustainable behaviour, obtain social profitability and achieve greater territorial cohesion.
