Madrid will adapt 112 premises as rental homes for people with reduced mobility

The Community of Madrid will convert 112 empty commercial premises into social rental housing adapted for people with reduced mobility, with a maximum price of 329 euros per month, around 60% less than the market value.

During this term, the regional Executive will invest some nine million euros to increase the protected park in the region for vulnerable families. On average, the budget for adaptation works reaches 80,000 euros per property.

These new homes have a useful area between 62 and 84 square meters distributed in two or three bedrooms, as well as a living room, kitchen, bathroom and a hall that provides greater privacy to tenants. The renovations include the interior distribution, coatings, exterior and interior carpentry, as well as all plumbing, electricity, heating and gas installations.

The price of your lease will be 52 euros for the first three months and, after that initial period, it will be adjusted depending on the economic conditions of the tenants, up to a maximum of 329 euros per month.

During a visit this Friday to one of these spaces that have already been converted, located in the San Blas-Canillejas district of the capital, the Minister of Housing, Transport and Infrastructure, Jorge Rodrigo, explained that they are commercial premises of the Social Housing Agency that are transformed into homes intended mainly for people with some type of disability or reduced mobility.

Currently, the project for 30 of these commercial premises is being carried out to convert them directly into housing and a total of seven have been carried out. "The objective is to create new accessible homes, taking advantage of the usual situation of these premises that are located on the ground floor, which allows the removal of architectural barriers, especially favoring those citizens with reduced mobility," Rodrigo stressed.

These 112 premises are part of the regional government's project to make 1,681 homes for social rental available to Madrid residents who need it most during the legislature. As detailed by the counselor, 180 of these homes are currently being built in Majadahonda.
