In the automotive sector there are many vehicles designed to be functional and be used on a daily basis. However, there are others that surpass the logic of conventional cars to climb to stratospheric levels. Of course, these are not alternatives designed to go shopping, take the children to school or go on vacation with a lot of luggage.
In this case, we are talking about an impressive car that integrates four electric motors, a single seat and that is capable of achieving performance figures that can take your breath away. This is the MG EXE181, a true “bullet” on wheels that has just seen the light of day at the Beijing Motor Show, which will have its doors open until May 4.
If we break down its name, we will see that EXE181 comes from Experimental Electric 181. The figure represents the aerodynamic coefficient, which is only 0.181, one of the lowest in history for a car. In addition to this appearance and its spectacular futuristic aesthetics, the vehicle stands out for being capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in just 1.9 seconds.
It should be noted that the EXE181 is a tribute to the MG EX181 "Roaring Raindrop" of 1957, a car that set the bar very high at all levels and which in 1959 established a speed record of 410.5 km/h with the driver Phil Hill at the wheel. Let us remember that this same driver became, two years later, the first American F1 world champion in history.
It should be kept in mind that, as you can imagine, this is not a car that is going to be mass produced nor that you are going to find rolling on any highway. And it is a concept car that, in any case, establishes the foundations of electric sportiness under the MG brand, of British origin but currently under the control of the Chinese giant SAIC Motor.
Although we do not know if the Chinese group will try to break official speed records in the field of electric cars, the truth is that this “beast” from MG could equal or even improve some of the records of the award-winning Rimac Nevera. . It should be noted that the latter, also equipped with four engines, has an aerodynamic coefficient of 0.3 (quite less ambitious than that achieved by the new EXE181 concept).
For now, the power of the Chinese hypercar has not been made public, but we must not overlook that the Rimac Nevera provides a huge 1,914 HP and was capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in just 1.82 seconds. We will see if in the future the MG car or even a hypothetical evolution approved for driving on the open road is capable of officially breaking this record.
