Everything ready to celebrate the III Cycle Tourist March in La Línea de la Concepción

The second vice president of the Provincial Council of Cádiz responsible for the Area of Ecological Transition and Citizenship Development, Javier Vidal, has taken stock of the various programs that the Provincial Administration is executing and has announced the initiatives that he is leading within the framework of the European Week of Mobility, which will be held from September 16 to 22 and will host the III Cycle Tourist March in La Línea de la Concepción.

As indicated by the Provincial Council in a note, Vidal has recalled that the Provincial Institution has been promoting measures for several years to raise awareness among citizens of the negative effects of the use of fossil combustion vehicles. Effects that translate into pollution and health risks that can be solved simply by using other more sustainable forms of mobility, such as walking, bicycles or public transport.

In this context, the Provincial Council has organized the III Cycle Tourist March which, on this occasion, will take place in La Línea de la Concepción on September 16. The objective of this initiative, which has the collaboration of the Linense City Council, is to encourage citizens to incorporate the use of this means of transport in their urban travel into their habits.

At the moment, more than 120 people have registered. Vidal has invited people to participate in this march, which residents from both sides of the border with Gibraltar are called to attend with the intention of promoting more sustainable travel models between both urban centers.

The III Cycle Tourist March will leave at 9:30 a.m. from the Poniente promenade, near the La Luna beach bar, and will take place along a 16-kilometer route. Registration to participate is free and can be formalized until this Wednesday, September 13.

Furthermore, according to Vidal, the awareness-raising work of the Provincial Council is completed with the development of programs that involve the implementation of permanent actions, with which it is intended that sustainable mobility in the various municipalities of Cadiz is a reality and is not limited exclusively to Mobility Week.

Among these, the supply of bicycle repair stations has stood out. These are infrastructures installed on urban land, free of charge, which are equipped with the necessary tools so that those who use bicycles can carry out small repairs and maintenance work, such as inflating the wheels, changing them, tightening screws, adjusting the brakes or repair a puncture. Installed in strategic locations, these facilities provide support to encourage citizens to use bicycles to the detriment of other polluting vehicles.

Under this program, the Provincial Council has acquired another six units this year, which will be delivered to the municipalities for placement in Vejer de la Frontera, Rota, Castellar de la Frontera, Barbate, Zahara de los Atunes and Facinas. With these, there will be 12 repair stations provided by the Provincial Council throughout the province, since those in Olvera, Puerto Serrano, Los Barrios, Conil, Chipiona and Tarifa were installed last year.

Furthermore, for this 2023 campaign of the European Mobility Week, and taking advantage of the motto of 'Energy Efficiency', the Provincial Council will continue to promote the use of energy-efficient transport on urban journeys, in the case of personal mobility vehicles. Within this framework, the provincial Administration will provide 21 municipalities with less than 20,000 inhabitants and Local Autonomous Entities with new parking units for this type of vehicles.

Specifically, 42 of these pieces of equipment will be delivered to Alcalá del Valle, Benalup-Casas Viejas, Benaocaz, Bornos, Castellar de la Frontera, Chipiona, El Gastor, Jimena de la Frontera, Olvera, Paterna de Rivera, Puerto Serrano, San José del Valle, Tarifa, Ubrique, Villaluenga del Rosario, Estella del Marqués, Guadalcacín, El Torno, La Barca de la Florida, Facinas and Tahivilla.

Each of these facilities has the capacity to park six electric scooters, bringing the total number of spaces at the provincial level to 126. The municipalities that are provided with these parking units are those that have expressed their interest in participating in this program. The supply of these infrastructures has already been awarded since last August, so their delivery is expected to each location over the next two weeks.

Finally, Vidal has reported on the status of the Movep Cádiz Plan (Electric Vehicle Mobility Plan of the Province of Cádiz), which aims to promote the use of electric vehicles by, on the one hand, the supply of this type of cars to city councils and on the other, the creation of a provincial network of charging stations.

Thanks to this action, the Provincial Council will subsidize the incorporation of a 100% electric vehicle into the municipal mobile fleet in the 20 Cadiz towns that have joined the initiative: Alcalá del Valle, Alcalá de los Gazules, Algodonales, Bornos, Castellar de la Frontera, El Gastor, Espera, Jimena de la Frontera, Medina Sidonia, Olvera, Paterna de Rivera, Prado del Rey, Puerto Serrano, Setenil de las Bodegas, Tarifa, Trebujena, Ubrique, Vejer de la Frontera, Villamartín and Zahara de la Sierra .

Each of these municipalities in turn undertakes to carry out the transfer of municipally owned space for the installation, maintenance and operation of a public charging infrastructure for electric vehicles by a company that provides electric mobility services.

Within the framework of this plan, technical assistance is also offered to Chipiona for the transfer of space in which to install the charging point. The intention of the Ecological Transition Area is to take the proposed agreement on the regulatory bases of the Movep Plan to the next ordinary plenary session of the Corporation, the deputy has indicated.
