Eines de País - Un Pas Més today presented its candidacy for the presidency of the Barcelona Chamber of Commerce. The independence initiative, which receives the support of the Catalan National Assembly, aspires to re-election after prevailing as the winner in the 2019 elections.
The president Mònica Roca and the vice president Toni Fitó have explained that the candidacy has 52 members, 23 of which will be represented by current members and 29 by new faces. Among them, Ernest Pérez-Mas, founder of the Parlem telecommunications company; chef Ada Parellada, owner of the Semproniana restaurant; Joan Puigcercós, former general secretary of ERC and owner of the construction company Planes 2000; Eduard Torres, president of the Barcelona Tourism consortium and owner of the Duquesa Cardona chain or Gabi Jené, owner of the La Mallorquina household items chain and president of Barcelona Oberta. In addition, the entity ensures that members of the former candidacies of Enric Crous, Ramón Masià and the 50-50 platform have joined.
"The Chamber is a fundamental tool to protect the industry and the Catalan language from a global dynamic in which the country has few friends. For this reason, we promoted an uninhibited candidacy for independence", claimed Joel Joan, actor and audiovisual producer who was part of of the previous application.
The Eines de País - Un Pas Més program wants to work to bring the institution closer to micro-SMEs, promote training, digitization, territorial cohesion and help companies retain professional talent. The candidacy considers that by reinforcing the productive fabric of the territory, it works actively to ensure that Catalonia has its own state.
"We have to continue denouncing the chronic deficiencies of Catalonia, such as the fiscal deficit with Spain, the protection of the language or the investment in health," said Mònica Roca, who may be re-elected president in the electoral process that will take place in September. On the other hand, Joan Canadell, does not run for re-election as president of the Chamber since he is a deputy of the Parliament of Catalonia for Junts.
Dolors Feliu, president of the ANC, has also intervened in the presentation, defending the presidency of the Barcelona Chamber as a key tool for independence and has said that the success in the previous legislature shows that the movement is still alive. Eines de País also appears in the elections of the chambers of commerce of Terrassa and Manresa.
