Catalonia leads job creation with 24,000 affiliates in February

Catalonia created 23,637 jobs in February, raising its total number of employed people to 3.7 million, according to data published this Monday by Social Security. With this data, it has been the autonomy where the most jobs are created, after the decline at the start of the year.

The month has been positive for employment at the Spanish level. Catalonia has been followed by Andalusia (18,325 new employees); Balearic Islands (14,808 contributors), and Madrid (12,648). Only Castilla-La Mancha has lost jobs, with 1,314 fewer.

Regarding unemployment, in Catalonia there was no great progress. In the second month of the year, only 698 people left unemployment, so the total number of unemployed remains above 346,000, with 346,373 unemployed. This is clear from this Monday's data from the Ministry of Labor and Social Economy. Unemployment fell in industry, with 808 fewer people compared to January, as well as in the services sector, with 557 people, and in construction, with 221 fewer people. On the other hand, in the group of unemployed without previous employment it increased by 876 people and, in agriculture, by 12 more people.

Despite the slight improvement, Catalonia was the fourth autonomous community where unemployment fell the most, in a decrease marked by Andalusia (-4,110), the Valencian Community (-1,552) and Castilla y León (-704). In the Community of Madrid it grows by 465 people.

By sex, women represented 57.12% of the unemployed in Catalonia, with a total of 197,877 unemployed, while men represented 42.87%, with 148,496 unemployed.

At the national level, February was a positive month, with the creation of 103,000 jobs, the best figure for this month since 2007, and a decrease in unemployment of 7,400 people. In total Spain has 2.7 million unemployed.
