Catalonia generates 10,900 jobs in July, but also sees unemployment rise

In July, the number of unemployed people registered in the offices of the Public State Employment Service (SEPE) increased by 1,621 people in Catalonia, reaching 331,356 unemployed.

Catalonia generates 10,900 jobs in July, but also sees unemployment rise

In July, the number of unemployed people registered in the offices of the Public State Employment Service (SEPE) increased by 1,621 people in Catalonia, reaching 331,356 unemployed. With these figures, it has been the autonomous community in which unemployment has risen the most in absolute terms, although in the last 12 months it has fallen by 10,035 people.

In turn, Catalonia was the second autonomous community with the largest increase in Social Security affiliates in July, getting 10,931 more contributors.

Of the total number of unemployed, 192,207 are women and 139,149 men. On the other hand, unemployment among those under 25 years of age has risen to 18,484 people.

By sectors, services continue to be the one with the highest number of unemployed, growing in July by 1,468 people to 238,625 unemployed. Industry is the second most unemployed sector with 36,693 people, 159 more in July, followed by construction, which has 246 more unemployed, reaching a total of 25,789.

The only sector in which unemployment has fallen in July has been that of agriculture, which has managed to have 59 fewer unemployed, which means that it is left with 5,377 unemployed.

During the month of July in Catalonia, 244,850 contracts were signed, 5,933 less than in June and 37,639 less than a year ago, of which 104,865 were permanent and 139,985 temporary.
