11 days of strike called for the closure of the Danone plant in Parets

The Danone works council has called an eleven-day strike at the Parets del Vallès plant (Barcelona) against the company's decision to close the factory where 157 people work.

According to the delegate of the Danone works council Lucas Díaz (CCOO), the strike will begin at 6:00 a.m. next Saturday, March 16, and will end on March 27 at the same time, after 80% of the workers have voted. in favor of this measure.

"Negotiations with the company are stalled," said Díaz, who complained that, while the management wants to close the factory, it has asked workers to increase production on weekends.

According to Díaz, the company can demand that workers work 5 days on weekends with 72 hours' notice and with financial compensation "and now the company has asked to increase the number of days," which the committee has refused. before the closure plans.

This week the committee has a meeting with Danone management but the union representative has no hope of reaching any type of agreement, given that "there is no negotiation" and, according to him, the parties do not understand each other.

In mid-January, Danone announced that it intended to close its Parets del Vallès plant, where 157 people work and where the company manufactures products such as Oikos, Alpro and Vitalínea.

The Danone group has six plants in Spain, three for dairy and three for water. The Parets plant is part of the industrial facilities that produce dairy, along with Tres Cantos (Madrid) and Aldaia (Valencia), while the water facilities are in Sant Hilari Sacalm (Girona), Lanjarón (Granada) and Sigüenza ( Guadalajara).
