Ximo Puig will lead the opposition to Carlos Mazón "out of responsibility to society and the party"

Ximo Puig assumes the challenge of leading Valencian socialism from the opposition to the next government chaired by Carlos Mazón. He stated this at the conclusion of the meeting that the PSPV Executive held in Valencia this afternoon. The still president of the Generalitat has promised his colleagues, who at the beginning of the meeting gave him a loud ovation, to "lead the alternative future for the Valencian Community".

The socialist leader considers that he must accept this new role "out of responsibility with Valencian society and with my party." Puig has thanked the executive "and all the militants" for the support received, and accepts "the mandate of the citizenry regarding my position and that of my party in these elections; the citizenry has said who has to be the government and who has than to be the opposition".

The socialist leader believes that his government has carried out "good policies that have been accepted by society" and believes that it is his obligation to try to ensure that "they continue to consolidate sooner rather than later." In his opinion, "there have been circumstances exogenous to the Valencian Community that have determined the electoral result", but from a "constructive opposition, which adds up, always thinking of the best for Valencian society", he is willing to "cut off the ravings that can be produced."

Puig recalled that the PSPV has obtained the best result since 2007, something that "should not be underestimated at all", a result that has stood out in the whole of Spain. "The future also happens because the Valencian Community has more weight in Spain, more decision-making capacity, and we are going to try to manage that also in general elections in which the PSPV-PSOE is going to have an important participation."

In his opinion, the noise "especially in the mainstream media has been deafening" and the right "has managed to implement an agenda that is foreign to the Valencian Community." Regarding the possibility that Sánchez will ask him to head the list for Castellón, he has replied "my place is in the Valencian Community". He has agreed with the electoral call, "it is a correct decision, that the citizens are the ones who speak, that perhaps they do not say what the media believe. Now it is time to talk about Spain."
