What amnesty are we talking about?

Many of the territorial problems that have been generated in Spain in recent years have been caused by the different readings that the members of the Constitutional Court have made of the Magna Carta. Based on whether the majority of the body was conservative or progressive, the interpretation of conflicts of jurisdiction could lean one way or the other. In fact, some articles of the reform of the Statute of Autonomy of Catalonia that were suspended by the TC are still in force in other autonomous communities. Therefore, and admitting ahead of time my ignorance of legal knowledge, I feel great skepticism about the interpretations that are made of many of our laws.

These days there are authorized voices, and others not so much, that question the constitutionality of the amnesty that Junts and ERC propose to support the investiture of Pedro Sánchez. Welcome be the debate. However, the point of daring in speculating about an amnesty bill whose content is unknown and how many people it may affect is striking. The only thing we know are maximalist proposals that come from the pro-independence formations and vain generalizations by the socialist ranks.

In the event that Alberto Núñez Feijóo does not prosper in his initiative to be sworn in as president, there will still be a long time for Sánchez to present his candidacy. Between one thing and another, we may be talking about the legality or not of the amnesty until the end of November. And even so, it remains to be seen whether the agreement between the two parties, if reached, could be a vague and imprecise set whose feasibility would be in charge of discussing later that "mediation and verification mechanism" proposed by Carles Puigdemont.

It can be understood that from the PP the amnesty is presented as an intolerable concession to the independentistas, but the vehemence with which some heavyweights of the PSOE have come out to criticize it before knowing what we are talking about is striking.
