Valencia is experiencing its first big Fallas weekend with a multitude of events and a festive atmosphere

The streets of València already breathe the atmosphere of Fallas, and not only because of the smell given off by the dozens of churros and buñuelos stands that have begun to flourish in every corner. The city is experiencing its first big weekend of the holidays, despite the fact that there are two weeks left until the plantà, with a multitude of events and the streets (and terraces) of the center full of people who were able to enjoy yesterday the good weather of the first part of the day; of the second mascletà -by Pirotecnia Zaragozana-; and, in the afternoon, the Ninot Parade. The approach to the Fallas already denotes that, once again, they are going to be massive parties.

However, this Sunday will be the highlight of the weekend after the need to remake the Fallas calendar due to the obligatory and necessary mourning that the city had last week after the tragic fire that caused 10 fatalities and left more than a hundred of families without their homes.

After its postponement, this Sunday the Crida will be celebrated, which will kick off the Fallas 2024. Like every year, the Serrans Towers in the city of Valencia will dress up to welcome their most international festivals. The Falleras Mayores of Valencia, Marina García and María Estela Arlandis, will invite everyone in La Crida to come and enjoy them. A heartfelt memory is expected for the victims of the fire in the Campanar neighborhood.

According to Junta Central Fallera, the event will begin around 7:35 p.m. with a show prior to which will be followed by the speeches of the city's mayor, María José Catalá, who will make the traditional delivery of the keys to the city to the maximum representatives of the festival, the Falleras Mayores de València. They will also address a few words to the hundreds of falleros who are anxiously awaiting the official announcement of the start of the festivities. Controls have been established to prevent the meeting from turning into a macro bottle.

It will be the culmination of a day full of events that starts very early with the children's wake (7:15 a.m.) and the macro wake (7:30 a.m.). In a tight schedule and before the mascletà each day in the Plaza del Ayuntamiento, the 62nd edition of Cant de L'Estoreta Velleta will be held in the Plaza del Carmen (10:00 a.m.), a contest where the participating commissions interpret the song traditional and recreate the atmosphere of ancient Valencia with typical Valencian dresses from the 19th and 20th centuries.
