For being funny. It is the reason that, apparently, led a couple of Sevillians to climb the scaffolding of the Giralda, during restoration work, this morning. Both, a woman and a man, were intercepted by the National Police and will receive an administrative sanction.
The individuals climbed the monument, declared World Heritage since 1987, and reached the level of the fifth floor of the tower, 97.5 meters high, 101 meters if the Giraldillo statue is added.
As Diario de Sevilla has advanced and the National Police has confirmed, it was at 1 in the morning when the first warnings began to be given alerting of what was happening in the Giralda. It was on the north face of the tower where two people were climbing the monument, making use of the structure installed to carry out restoration work, composed of the minaret of the missing main mosque of the ancient Almohad Isbiliya, -erected in the year 1184 with sebka decoration on its four faces-, and a Renaissance body of bells erected in 1558.
The agents sent there surprised these people when they were on the fifth floor of the emblematic tower, 97.5 meters high.
