Two Pakistanis have been arrested this Tuesday in Athens, under the accusation of preparing several imminent attacks. Greek security forces believe that the dismantled cell intended to attack an Israeli center that also functions as a Jewish restaurant, as well as sow panic in "a significant building" in the Greek capital. The investigations of the national intelligence center would have also reached southern Greece and the island of Zacinto.
Greek intelligence has ensured that the cell had a third Pakistani brain, from an unidentified foreign country. Athens has also said that it had received contributions from a foreign agency that it has not revealed either. However, the Israeli Mossad has abandoned its traditional secrecy to claim the clues and accuse "Iran" of being behind the plot.
According to an Israeli newspaper, the profile of the restaurant not identified by the Athenian police matches the kosher restaurant in the Chabad center. It is an orthodox Jewish organization originally from Eastern Europe, with centers in half the world. One of its centers, in Mumbai, was the object of an assault and kidnapping by a Pakistani terrorist cell in 2008. Its center in Pune was also watched by the same spy, the American with a Pakistani father and alleged double agent, David Headley.
Greece has escaped the worst attacks that in the last two decades have bloodied several European cities, perpetrated in all cases by Sunni extremism that demonizes Westerners and Shiites alike. Just today, a center of the Ismaili branch of Shiism in Lisbon has been the object of a knife attack by an Afghan refugee with alleged mental problems. Lisbon was chosen a few years ago by the Aga Jan as the world diplomatic headquarters of his cult.
