Toledo's medieval heritage revives within the walls of the new Áurea Hotels

For centuries, Christians, Muslims and Jews lived together in peace within the walls of the city of Toledo. Singular examples of its passage through medieval architecture have remained from its passage, and it is precisely in the historic center - listed as a world heritage site - where a set of seven patio houses with great historical value has been rehabilitated, whose origin It dates back to the 11th century, which were very deteriorated and had fallen into oblivion. These historic buildings have come together to give life to a unique space destined to become a legendary hotel.

This is the first establishment in the city of the boutique brand of signature hotels Áurea Hotels, which are characterized by being closely linked to the destination and its culture. The Áurea Toledo is located in the so-called Canónigos or Pozo Amargo neighborhood, a name it receives because in the Middle Ages many ecclesiastics established their residence in the area.

Six years have passed since this complex project began and the architectural intervention has been meticulous in order to preserve as many elements of incalculable value that remained hidden between the walls and foundations of the original construction. These elements have been integrated into the building as a whole to protect them and show them to the guests, among them are the paintings from the 11th century belonging to an ancient caliphal palace, polychrome panels from the 15th century, cisterns and carved ceilings, as well as 62 paintings from French heraldic shields from the 13th century, making it a hotel-museum in itself.

The façade is simple, but inside there are 66 boutique-style rooms distributed in suites, double rooms and rooms with a living room among a labyrinth of corridors and patios. Some of them are spaces that preserve elements of the medieval past as if it were an exhibition, which are complemented by majestic decoration in line with history. Many of them have a unique panoramic view of the historic center of Toledo thanks to the hotel's privileged location, a few steps from some of the most emblematic monuments and places, such as the Alcázar or the Tránsito synagogue.

An establishment located between narrow, cobbled streets to immerse yourself in the historic city. And very close by, the restaurant Los Cuatro Tiempos and the Taberna de Botero put the icing on the cake, with an exquisite restoration, to the visit. Upon return, guests can relax in the tranquil wellness area with a steam bath, vitality pool that combines water and air effects for deep well-being, and a heated bench with a wall of Himalayan salt.
