They warn of the "disturbing" disappearance of a woman after going through a difficult divorce

The SOS Desaparecidos association has warned of the "disturbing" disappearance of a 40-year-old woman with American nationality, who moved to Madrid while she was going through a difficult divorce.

Before the events, the missing woman, Ana María Knezevich Henao, lived in Miami with her family, where she married a Serbian citizen. However, she soon had problems in her marriage, so she opted for divorce.

For the woman, it was a tough process that went "to the point of asking for medical help for depression," as the president of SOS Desaparecidos and family spokesperson, Joaquín Amills, explained to the Europa Press agency.

It is for this reason that in December 2023, Ana María decided to go live in Madrid, where a childhood friend lived, and settled in a rental apartment. However, the contract ended in March and, therefore, the day before the disappearance, both friends were looking at a new home.

In fact, the last reliable communication from the missing woman was on February 2 at 11:30 a.m. telling her friend that she had not liked the apartment she had seen.

Her friend wrote to her that same day without receiving a response. The next day, alarmed, she called her on the phone without success. Her silence was worrying, since on the 5th they had planned to go to Barcelona to attend an event, for which Ana María "was very excited."

On the 3rd, at 1:00 p.m., both this friend and another of Ana María's, who was due to visit her shortly, received an identical message on WhatsApp - the first in Spanish and the second in English - from the missing woman's mobile phone.

In the text he told them that he had met a wonderful person and that he had gone with her to a country house located two hours from Madrid, but that there is a bad signal there, so he would contact them "when he returned."

Since then, they have not heard anything more. Likewise, Ana María's family does not believe that she wrote it, since it is not the way to talk about her or write about her. "It looks like a concealer has been applied," notes Amills.

Alarmed, the Spanish friend went to the missing woman's home. When no one answered the door, she called the emergency services. After telling them what happened, the Firefighters entered the apartment through a window and verified that there were no signs of violence or disorder.

However, a neighbor claimed to have seen light in the house in the early hours of Saturday, February 3. In addition, she added that on that weekend they tried to rob the building - although there is no complaint in this regard - and that for this reason some unknown people covered the telephone camera at the entrance and the security camera next to the elevator with black spray.

Given the situation, a complaint has been filed at the National Police station, which is now investigating the events. Both the family and the friend of the missing woman affirm that Ana María had never done something similar before and that it did not fit with her way of being.

For the moment, they have asked the police to geolocate his phone, which now no longer gives a signal, to check where the terminal was last connected. On the other hand, they request that the security cameras of the building where he lived and the surrounding area be checked.

For his part, the president of SOS Desaparecidos asks for citizen help to locate this woman, whose trail was lost almost two weeks ago, since her disappearance "presents very worrying features from the first moment." "It is one of the few cases in which we have not received any news," he indicated.
