They ask for explanations for the hospitalization of 9 soldiers due to hypothermia in the Aragonese Pyrenees

The Spanish Troop and Marine Association (ATME) has asked the Ministry of Defense for information on the health status of nine soldiers who had to be evacuated with symptoms of frostbite and hypothermia during maneuvers of the Montejurra mountain hunter battalion in the Aragonese Pyrenees. .

The events occurred on the 7th and all the soldiers have already been discharged, Defense sources have assured EFE, who have explained that all protocols were followed in winter life and movement practices. The sources have added that the unit's medical service intervened, assessing the cases and taking the appropriate measures.

According to ATME, the actions of the company captain prevented there from being more numerous and with a more serious prognosis, since, given the forecast of extremely adverse weather and in order to ensure the safety and integrity of his personnel, he requested the chief of the Montejurra I/66 Battalion the change of the bivouac area and the suspension of night training.

Nine soldiers were quickly evacuated to the hospital in Huesca and later, two of them, to the General Defense Hospital in Zaragoza.

The association denounces that in recent months there have been "extremely compelling" events, such as the accident that occurred in Cerro Muriano (Córdoba) last December, in which two soldiers drowned during exercises.

Furthermore, in February a soldier died and another was injured in a traffic accident when they were returning from maneuvers, on the A-5 towards Madrid, in Extremadura.

ATME insists that the military profession is risky and, although its members are prepared for the most extreme and dangerous situations, "it does not prevent us from minimizing all possible risks."
