They arrest the hunter who shot a cyclist in a forest in Empordà

This Wednesday afternoon, the Mossos d'Esquadra arrested the 52-year-old hunter who last Sunday shot a cyclist in a wooded area of Forallac (Girona), leaving him badly injured with a shot to the stomach.

The Bisbal d'Empordà Investigation Unit has accused the accused, a resident of Fonteta (Girona), of a crime of serious injuries due to recklessness. Currently, he is waiting to be summoned by court number 2, which is investigating the case. Likewise, the detainee has taken advantage of his right not to testify before the Mossos.

The cyclist, a 54-year-old resident of Palafrugell, has had to undergo surgery several times due to the injuries caused by the gunshot. Even so, the victim is evolving well within the severity of the situation.

The accident happened last Sunday morning, when the hunter shot the cyclist in the Font Bandolera area, in the municipality of Forallac. The Mossos d'Esquadra and Rural Agents were alerted by a call to the Emergency Department and immediately examined the place and the circumstances in which the events had occurred.

As determined by the inspection report, the hunting team had correctly marked the hunt and it was the cyclist who entered the area. Furthermore, according to sources in the case, it was the hunter himself who warned him that he was in the middle of a hunt.

That's when the victim reversed down a small path, a wooded area that was difficult to access. Minutes later, the hunter heard a noise and, thinking it was a wild boar, shot, hitting the cyclist.

After the accident, the Rural Agents confiscated the weapon from the detainee and placed it in the custody of the Weapons Intervention of the Civil Guard. Currently, they are investigating the case as "negligence", since the hunter "had no vision of the target" and shot the cyclist, supposedly mistaking him for a wild boar.

Last Monday, the Girona Hunting Federation issued a statement in which it “regretted” the events but attributed the event to the cyclist entering a duly marked hunt area.
