The first local government meeting of the mandate of the mayoress of Valencia, Mª José Catalá, has given the green light to promote the bilingual denomination of the city, in Spanish and Valencian, and to propose that the celebration of the traditional Te Deum be included in the Procession Civic of October 9, with the entrance of the Royal Senyera into the Cathedral.
In an extraordinary session, after the investiture plenary session last Saturday, the body met for the first time with its new members: Catalá and the councilors Mª José Ferrer San Segundo, Julia Climent, Juan Giner, Juan Carlos Caballero, Paula Llobet, Santiago Ballester and Jesús Carbonell, details the consistory.
Specifically, the first motion promoted by Catalá consists of "promoting the procedure for changing the name of the municipality of Valencia so that, henceforth, its official form can be in Spanish and Valencian".
The second motion of the mayoress, which has been endorsed by the municipal collegiate body, proposes that "within the civic procession of the Nou d'Octubre the celebration of the traditional Te Deum takes place".
Catalá has highlighted, in a previous visit to the Local Police headquarters, that these are "two important measures" to start the process of the bilingual name of the city and "try to recover the tradition of October 9, the entrance of the Senyera in the Cathedral", as he has remembered that he promised.
In this regard, asked about the criticisms of his predecessor, Joan Ribó (Compromise), stating that Senyera's entry into the Seo goes back to Francoism, Catalá (PP) has urged the former mayor to "review his historical notes".
What's more, he has advanced that he intends to give him "a couple of books on the history of Valencia" to remind him that "it is Jaume I who did a religious service when he entered Valencia." Catalá has compared this gift with the olive tree that Ribó gave her during her transfer of power, a gift for which she has assured that she is "super happy" and that she plans to keep in her office.
The first item on the agenda has consisted of reporting the resolutions of the Mayor's Office for the appointment of the members of the governing board and the head and substitute of the secretary of the board, which has fallen to Ferrer Sansegundo and Juan Giner, respectively.
The mayoress has given an account of the resolutions for the appointment of mayoral tenures, the delegation of powers by matter to councilors and the mayoral delegations to the local government board.
In addition, the presidency and substitution of the municipal contracting table has been appointed, at the proposal of Catalá, and the dismissal of coordinators and general directors of the municipal organic structure has been agreed.
After this government meeting, the first mayor has explained that she will call another session for next Friday the 23rd, already in an ordinary way.
