The white architecture of Cala Morell

In this photograph in La Vanguardia Readers' Photos we can admire the white Mediterranean architecture of Cala Morell, a small natural bay located in the north of the island of Menorca, in the municipality of Ciutadella.

In Cala Morell there is a pine forest, dotted with white Ibizan-style houses, following the model erected by the architect Luis Rey. He, together with Enrique Ventura, designed this urbanization.

Since the 60s, they have set a style guide that defines this type of house, although more recently chalets have been built that break this harmony.

But traditional architecture is white in an urban plot that is inspired by elements of the environment. For example, the shape of one of the caves served as a pattern for the characteristic shape of the streetlights both in the street lighting and in the houses that make up this urbanization.

The coastline of Cala Morell is half sand, half rocky, and stands out for its clean and transparent waters. From the cliffs that surround the cove you can clearly see the seabed.
