The unique Ebro boat cemetery

This photograph in La Vanguardia's Readers' Photos transports us to the boat cemetery in Fangar Bay, one of the most unique spaces in the Ebro Delta.

In this location, very close to the town of L'Ampolla (Baix Ebre), you can discover this kind of open-air museum about life on the river and at sea represented through old and disused boats.

The old boats sink, creating a set of wooden skeletons of different colors and shapes that integrate with the nature of the Ebro Delta.

We are in the largest wetland area in Catalonia and one of the most important in Western Europe, where another constant in the landscape are the rice fields.

El Fangar and Playa de la Marquesa is a humid area that includes the coastal arrow of Punta del Fangar, La Marquesa beach and Fangar bay. In this area, next to La Marquesa beach, is located the most extensive and complex dune system in the entire delta.

The origin of the bay dates back to the 18th century. Here is located an important discharge of fresh water from the drainage channels of the rice fields. And the entry of sea water is carried out due to its connection with the sea.
