The unions call for the mobilization of the Valencian 28M to "not lose everything they have achieved"

Today has not been a May 1 to use. The proximity of the regional and local Valencian elections of 28 has modified the classic photograph of united unions to demand improvements and decent conditions for workers.

In today's demonstrations two things have changed: the large presence of leaders of the Valencian left parties and the call for workers to mobilize on election day.

The reasons were clearly explained this morning by the general secretaries of CC.OO. and UGT in the Valencian Community, Ana García and Ismael Sáez in the demonstration in Valencia, attended by thousands of people. "We make a positive balance of the agreements reached both in Spain and in the Valencian Community, and we do not want any vote to be lost," García defended.

"It is about choosing policies of progress that guarantee labor and salary rights, such as labor reform, or voting for retrogression, economic liberalism and reversing all the rights achieved," he added.

The fear that a lack of mobilization on the left could end up favoring the right wing of the PP and Vox was palpable this morning in the speeches of politicians and union leaders. Ismael Sáez has denounced the lack of commitment of the "employers" to move towards improving the situation of workers "especially at a time when the benefits of some sectors such as banking are spectacular."

In addition, he claimed that despite the "tough years with crises like the pandemic, we have been able to make progress in the Valencian Community." "Cuts kill and the welfare state saves lives," he added.

He has also been very hard on Alberto Núñez Feijóo, whom he has described as "hypocritical" for criticizing the lack of purchasing power of workers and, at the same time, "voting against the interprofessional minimum wage."

Prominent left-wing politicians such as Ximo Puig, Sandra Gómez, councilors Arcadi España and Miquel Mínguez for the PSPV have participated in the demonstration in Valencia; Joan Ribó, Joan Baldoví, Papi Robles or Àgueda Micó for Compromís and Hèctor Illueca, Pilar Lima and Rosa Pérez for Unides Podem. In Alicante, Ana Barceló and Josefina Bueno have been seen by PSPV, Aitana Mas by Compromís and Xavi López by Esquerra Unida Podem.
