The two tech giants that AI will sweep away, according to Bill Gates

Bill Gates, co-founder of Microsoft Corp, has attended this week the AI Forward 2023 event, in San Francisco, organized by Goldman Sachs Group Inc and SV Angel. There, the technology magnate predicted that the company that finally wins the artificial intelligence (AI) race will do so by developing a personal digital assistant.

This revolution will bring changes to the web as we know it today. Thus, Gates stated: "You will never go (on the Internet) to a search engine (like Google) again, you will never go to a productivity site again, you will never go to Amazon again."

In his participation in the event that revolved around AI, the businessman developed his idea. Although he pointed out that we are still a long way from seeing a super digital assistant of regular and massive use -that is, of open development-, and that has the capacity to anticipate the needs of humans, whoever wins this AI race could both Be a tech startup or one of the leading tech giants in the sector. Both options, according to him, with a 50% chance.

In this long-distance race to lead in AI, Gates said he "would be disappointed if Microsoft didn't step in." However, he also praised his rivals and singled out the work of one company in particular: "But I'm impressed with a couple of startups , including Inflection”. This startup is co-founded by former DeepMind executive Mustafa Suleyman.

The Microsoft co-founder pointed out that artificial intelligence will be vital to the healthcare field. On this topic, he spoke in relation to his work at the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and stressed that AI will accelerate innovations in space and lead to more advanced drug development.

Although scientists still do not know part of the internal functioning of the human brain, the businessman explained that it would be thanks to technology that more advanced drug development could be achieved.

Gates also stressed that thanks to AI, the labor market and education could also be improved. Despite the improvements, the businessman recognized that this development implies a direct risk of job loss for a large number of people.
