The seagull 'tapasol' of Cabrera de Mar

I share in La Vanguardia Readers' Photos this photograph of the sunrise in Cabrera de Mar, in the Maresme, capturing the exact moment when a seagull steps in front of the sun.

The snapshot was taken at exactly 7:40 am and you can even see the solar pillar reflected on the sea water.

A pillar light is an atmospheric optical phenomenon in which a vertical beam of light appears to extend above and/or below a light source.

The effect is created by the reflection of light from small ice crystals that are suspended in the atmosphere or that comprise high-altitude clouds (for example, cirrostratus or cirrus clouds). If the light comes from the sun (usually when it is near or even below the horizon), the phenomenon is called a solar pillar.

Located about 28 kilometers from Barcelona, Cabrera de Mar is located between Vilassar de Mar and Mataró, although it also borders Cabrils and Argentona.

Until Roman times, Maresme belonged to Laietania, and its capital, Ituro, an important commercial city, was located in the Cabrera del Mar area.

The Cabrera valley is especially rich in archaeological sites. The most famous and best known is the Iberian town of Burriac, which extends just above Can Modolell. This town belonged to the Layetans, whose territory extended approximately in what are currently the regions of Maresme and Barcelonès.
