The Sau reservoir has acquired the appearance of a river as it becomes increasingly narrower due to the persistent drought, which has exposed the ruins of the ancient town of Sant Romà.
In this series of images we can see from the cliffs of Vilanova de Sau the new silhouette of the swamp, with the sinuosity that gives it its more fluvial appearance, as if it were a mere continuation of the Ter river.
And, at the same time, we can see images captured at the foot of the swamp of the current state of the ruins of the old town, such as the Romanesque church of Sant Romà, the old cemetery, the houses or the mill.
The Sau reservoir begins this week with a flow that only covers 1.52% of its capacity, a historical minimum as a result of the great drought in Catalonia.
The Sau swamp is part of a system of three reservoirs (along with those of Susqueda and Pasteral) that connects the counties of Osona, in the province of Barcelona, and La Selva, in the province of Girona.
