The riverless bridge of the Bisbal d'Empordà

The municipality of La Bisbal d'Empordà is located next to the Daró River, at the foot of the Gavarres massif, in the Baix Empordà region, of which it is the capital.

With the drought, water has stopped flowing under the old bridge, as seen in La Vanguardia's Readers' Photos. An image that has nothing to do with the river flooding, for example, three years ago.

The streets of the center of Bisbal d'Empordà maintain a medieval structure. In fact, you can still see the vestiges of the old walls and the castle-palace, built in the 11th century.

A notable element is the old bridge, from the 18th century. Other attractions if we decide to take a walk through this town are the Portal de la Riera and the baroque church of Santa Maria, from the beginning of the 18th century. It is easy to recognize it, since it has a 50-meter-high bell tower.

But not everything in Bisbal d'Empordà involves traveling to medieval times, but we can find modernist buildings as a result of the lively cultural and political activity that took place in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
