In the Photos of the Readers of La Vanguardia we can contemplate the red-colored sky at sunset in Barcelonès North, a view from Barcelona towards Sant Adrià de Besòs, Badalona and Santa Coloma de Gramenet with the candlelight coloring the urban landscape.
The geographical limits of Barcelonès North are the Besòs river and the municipal term of Sant Adrià de Besòs in the southwest, the sea in the southeast and the Marina mountain range in the north, mountains that can be seen in the background of the photograph.
In the snapshot, not only do the various shapes of the clouds and the reddish color of the sky stand out, but also one of the distinctive elements of Barcelonès Nord: the Three Besòs Chimneys.
Sant Adrià, located at the mouth of the Besòs river, between Barcelona, Badalona and Santa Coloma de Gramanet, has as a great visual reference point this structure built very close to the sea.
This is the old Tres Chimeneas thermal power station, which was a conventional cycle thermoelectric installation located on the left bank of the mouth of the Besòs. It consisted of three thermal groups of 350 MW each. Owned by Fecsa-Endesa, it was operational between 1973 and 2011.
After the dismantling of the plant, the turbine hall and its three iconic chimneys have been preserved, which are currently municipal property and are waiting to become a great hub for cultural and leisure activity.
The color of the sky is due to the candilazo, a meteorological phenomenon in which the clouds in the sky show a wide palette of colors that ranges from pink to the most intense orange. As part of the phenomenon of dispersion of sunlight, in the morning and afternoon hours, when the sun is closer to the horizon, the light that reaches the Earth is soft tones between red and orange.
