In an internal document prepared at the beginning of the year, before the appointment with the municipal and regional polls on May 28, the PSOE leadership predicted that Feijóo's head could roll, as that of his predecessor, Pablo Casado, rolled. “We are prepared for a possible change of leadership in the PP after the elections. If the result that the political adversary foresees does not occur, presidents like Moreno Bonilla or Ayuso could be a replacement that many voices in the PP requested,” the document stated.
The PP won on 28-M, the PSOE lost most of its territorial power, and Feijóo gained even more strength. And the leader of the PP also won this 23-J, but without the option of adding a sufficient parliamentary majority to invest him as Prime Minister. And in the PSOE they once again notice "internal noise" in the PP, despite the fact that for now it is masked with a "closing of ranks", and they doubt Feijóo's own political survival.
In Moncloa and Ferraz they have been celebrating since the night of 23-J that the leader of the PP does not have the necessary support for his inauguration. And this is how Minister Félix Bolaños underlined it yesterday: "I see it as totally impossible."
Despite this, in the PSOE they point out that Feijóo and the PP are encouraging "false expectations". "It remains to be seen if Feijóo reaches the investiture," they point out. But they consider that the PP, for now, only seeks to avoid "opening up the channel." And this was also highlighted by Bolaños: "The PP, to hide its failure, is having fun pretending that Feijóo can have an investiture," he said.
The minister recalled that some parties that the PP leader tested, such as the PNV, slammed the door in his face. It is not strange, he pointed out, "when for years you have been so disrespectful and insulting all groups in the House so much." And he warned that now Feijóo suffers from "terrible loneliness." “Only accompanied by the most extreme ultra-right,” he said, referring to Vox.
Bolaños was ironic with the offer of pacts that Feijóo now proposes to the PSOE, which he even recognizes as a "State party", and which he refers to again by its initials, instead of disqualifying it as "the Sanchista party", as he did during the entire electoral campaign. “I thank you for now saying that the PSOE is a state and constitutionalist party, after all the insults and falsehoods that we have had to endure these years. It is never too late, ”he replied.
