The PP candidate to preside over the Junta de Extremadura, María Guardiola, has the endorsement of Genoa to maintain her pulse with Vox and not incorporate members of the ultra party into the government of this community. From the beginning of the negotiations, Guardiola proposed to the extreme right to preside over the Assembly or agree on a programmatic agreement, but she does not want Santiago Abascal's men in the executive and if necessary she will repeat the elections. The disagreement between the two formations has ended up benefiting the PSOE, which has been able to retain the presidency of the Parliament of Extremadura in the second round.
The PP tied for seats with the PSOE and wants to govern alone. Especially after the controversy that arose in the Valencian Community, where the express government pact that was signed last week between the popular and the ultra-right has generated so much dust due to the suppression of some councils and the appointment of a former bullfighter as vice president of the Valencian government.
In Extremadura there is no possibility of an alternative government. Guillermo Fernández Vara has 28 seats, but the four for Podemos are not enough to add more votes than the 28 against the PP and the five for Vox. Thus, if the ultra-right does not support the investiture of Guardiola and accepts the programmatic agreement without entering the executive, the solution goes through the polls.
The divergences between the two parties became evident yesterday in the session to choose the presidency of the Assembly. When the negotiations between popular and the ultra formation did not prosper, the socialist Blanca Martín was finally chosen president of Parliament.
After the election of the socialist, Guardiola justified his refusal to incorporate Vox into his government for being a "principled" public servant. "I cannot let into the government those who deny sexist violence, those who use the bold stroke, those who are dehumanizing immigrants and those who unfurl a canvas and throw the LGTBI flag into a trash can," he warned, also referring to to his words that he would not allow a PSOE government. The PP candidate called the Vox political spokesman, Jorge Buxadé, who attended the plenary session of the Assembly as a "foreman of the feudal lord" and whom she accuses of directing the negotiations from Madrid.
