The PP closes ranks with Feijóo, who is probing UPN, CC, Vox and PNV to form a government

As much as the accounts do not come out, or at least are very difficult, Alberto Núñez Feijóo remains determined to try his investiture and, as he announced this Sunday, he has initiated contacts with the other parties. After the WhatsApp message that he exchanged with Pedro Sánchez on Sunday morning, this Monday he had the first contact with leaders of UPN, CC, PNV and Vox.

From those conversations, he already has one more vote, from UPN, to add to the investiture, although insufficient. With the Canarian Coalition, "the way has been opened" to have their vote, as Feijóo explained. With Vox they have been summoned to speak later and at least, they say in the PP, they have not said no. The PNV, on the other hand, has been exhaustive and publicly on Monday morning has stated that it is impossible for it to invest Feijóo. Already tonight, the president of the formation, Andoni Ortuzar, has communicated it by telephone to the president of the PP.

These contacts have a single objective, to form a government, according to Feijóo, in "a matter of weeks." Give Spain a government "as soon as possible", because Spain "cannot afford alliances against it or blockades", and for this the PP, "which is the party that won the elections", has a responsibility in the face of "an alliance between losers that would need more parties than ever, starting with Bildu and ERC", and "the contest of a party led by a fugitive from justice", the popular leader said before the PP board of directors in a speech that the media could follow.

Feijóo has vindicated himself, recalling the situation of the party 15 months ago, when he became president of the PP, and that in a short time it has returned to being the leading party in Spain, with an absolute majority in the Senate, which "will be key", he said.

A demand that to many has sounded like a response to the supporters of the PP who on Sunday night, when Feijóo spoke from the balcony, chanted Isabel Díaz Ayuso.

The meeting of the board of directors has been, according to the attendees consulted, "a true closing of ranks", in which everyone showed their support and many of them let Feijóo know that their results are due to him, and now they are going to be by his side.

All the barons assure, without the slightest doubt, that if the elections have to be repeated, the candidate will be Feijóo. Ayuso herself, when asked if the leadership of the popular leader is in question, answered with "I don't think so." In fact, all the barons standing up have burst into prolonged applause at the entry of Núñez Feijóo on the board of directors.

In her public statements, the president of the Community of Madrid has repeatedly reiterated her support for Núñez Feijóo, because "she has achieved great things, she has won the elections, and since she was president, the map of Spain has been dyed blue". He has stressed that "I am at her entire disposal, and I will be by her side at all times."

All the barons have agreed on something else: that Feijóo should try to govern since it has been the list with the most votes. Among the arguments, one of the Madrid president is that the PP cannot do what Inés Arrimadas did in Catalonia, when she was the first force in Catalonia, not take the initiative. “We cannot make an Arrimadas”, said others.

The president of the PP is going to try it and many have been surprised by how spirited Feijóo was, who continues to believe that there is a party. A deputy in Madrid and another in Girona are the hope of the PP president, since they could vary with the CERA vote, that of Spaniards residing abroad. He's going to try. He is convinced that "Spain needs moderation and understanding, not to depend on radical and pro-independence minorities."

Feijóo considers that the Spanish have wanted no one to have an "absolute majority", but he does not believe that they have decided on "impossible formulas", as in his opinion the Sánchez government would be, with the support of Bildu, ERC or Junts.

That is why he believes that he has to lead the conversations to try to form a government, "with respect for the majority will of the citizens, without ideological apriorities, with respect for the Constitution and our nation."

The alternative, "the coalition of losers", Feijóo has said, is not, by any means, what Spain needs, because those called to support that government "will have greater demands and a greater presence of the independentistas". It would be, he believes, "an implantable scenario."
